Ryan and Megan's Adirondack Itinerary

Saturday, October 1, 2005 - Monday, October 3, 2005

(Printer-Friendly Version)

Guess what, fool?  Megan and I have yet another trip planned!  This time we are headed to upstate New York!  Specifically, we are going to be travelling through the Adirondacks, the largest wilderness park in the United States.  What's there you ask?  Well, we actually booked this trip a long time ago (May), and was hoping that we could hit the peak fall foliage of New England.  However, due to the warm and dry weather recently, the trees have been very slow to change and are showing very little colour.  By the way, all of this is documented beautifully on the Foliage Network - that is an awesome web site.  We are also staying until Monday morning because originally we were considering going to Montreal, Canada.  I had been there in high school and loved it, but due to a bunch of restrictions on our rental car, that's not going to happen.  So, basically this is going to be a trip that will probably involve a lot of hiking and scenic driving, which should be awesome, anyway.  You can check out all the details of our trip below.  I've provided a generalized itinerary of what Megan and I are doing so that our stalkers don't have to work as hard.  Note:  All links will open in a new window.

All times are local to the particular city.  New York, like Maryland, is in the Eastern Time Zone, so there is no difference there.

Weather Forecast:
We aren't headed all that far away, so unless you are reading this from another country, you can pretty much bet that our weather is pretty similar to yours.  Last time I checked, it's going to be wonderful!  The skies should be mostly clear on Saturday and partly cloudy on Sunday with highs in the low 70's.  It's going to go down into the 40's at night, though (and perhaps even colder the farther north we go)!  Click on the "forecast" hyperlink next to the date for the forecast in the area we will be travelling.

Note:  The numbers in the itinerary correspond to the map at the bottom.

Saturday, October 1: (forecast)
We do not really have a true itinerary for this trip, so everything written here is not guaranteed.  Instead, we are just going to drive around the Adirondacks and see what we can see.  Basically, though, we are going to land in Albany (1), and start heading north.  On Saturday, we aren't going to have much time to do anything because we won't really get onto the road until almost noon.  We will probably drive up interstate 87 (2) and pop into Vermont to visit Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream (3).  Afterwards, we'll cross Lake Champlain to get back into New York.  We'll be staying just north of the park overnight in a town called Plattsburgh (4).

Sunday, October 2: (forecast)
After going to church like good little Christians, we will start our meandering journey south.  We will have the entire day to explore the huge national park, including Lake Placid (5) and a few other lakes (6) and mountaintops (7).  Of course, none of our trips would be complete without trying to find at least one geocache.  By evening, we'll head out of the park (8) to stay at a hotel (9) that is extremely close to the airport.  Hope we can get some sleep with the planes flying overhead!  We'll have no choice, though because we have got to get up extremely early the next day - a work day, nonetheless!

Monday, October 3: (forecast)
There is really nothing we are going to do today in Albany other than wake up, drive to the airport (10), fly to Maryland, and go to work.  Yes, we are flying in the same day that we are going to work.  Crazy!
