Ryan, Megan, Alex, and Katie's Cleveland to Chicago Itinerary
Saturday, October 10, 2015 - Monday, October 12, 2015
Howdy! Can you believe it's been over 10 years since we've flow into Cleveland? Wow - it seems like only yesterday! This time, we are taking the flight because it was the cheapest option for Columbus Day weekend to get us just a little bit closer to achieving A-List with Southwest Airlines again. But, we'll make the most of it by spending the majority of the trip away from Cleveland. In fact, we'll be heading to Chicago. This was once my favorite city, which was later spoiled by a $100 traffic violation I received via mail the last time I was there. Welcome to Chicago, indeed! Hmph! This time, we'll try not to break any laws and just have a grand old time on a wonderful sunny weekend along the Great Lakes! Let's go!
All times are local to the particular city. This trip will take place mostly in the Eastern Time Zone, but we'll switch to Central Time once we hit Chicago.
You know the drill. If we have signal and feel like setting up the webcam, the pictures above will start changing.

Saturday, October 10
Today starts with an early morning flight to Cleveland after Ryan got no sleep (again). We should be on the road by around 10:30am, at which time we'll head to our first and only real stop of the day: Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial . To get there, we need to take a ferry to Put-in-Bay, Ohio (which will hopefully be much better than our last trip to Kelley's Island over a decade ago). If we make the ferry schedule, we should be back on the mainland by around 3:30pm. From there, we'll stop by Toldeo to grab lunch at a local Applebee's - can you believe it? After that, it's a long drive to Chicago, with possibly a stop in Michigan for Katie's state sign picture. We won't get to our hotel until around 9 or 10pm, depending on what time zone you are following.
Sunday, October 11
The earlier we start today, the better. Our first stop comes after a quick treck up north to grab another state sign picture for Katie to include Illinois and Wisconsin . After the photo shoot, we head back to downtown Chicago and park at the House of Blues for a couple hours. If Megan gets lucky, she'll sample Hanson's MMMHops beer (she will have just missed them playing the night before at this venue - and yes, she still likes Hanson). We'll take a walk around the riverfront for a bit, and then get back in the car to head south to the largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere: The Museum of Science and Industry . I'm guessing we'll spend a bit of time here, to the point that we might miss our last destination, the Pullman National Monument . But that doesn't sound as fun as a science museum, anyway. After that, we'll grab dinner along the way to our hotel , which is likely just south of Detroit. We had 3 hotels booked for this evening, but we cancelled all of them at the last minute, as we couldn't figure out what to do. I think we've got it figured out now, but we won't re-book anything until the last minute. So, who knows where we'll end up!
Monday, October 12
Happy Columbus Day! Today, we'll stop at the Toledo Zoo for the majority of our morning and early afternoon. After that, it's a little over an hours' drive to Cleveland, where we plan to have dinner at the Melt Bar and Grilled to get some... well... grilled cheese! If time allows, we might stop by some local parks, such as Lakewood Park and Rocky River Reservation before heading to the airport for our late evening flight home! Ahhhh...
And if that's not good enough, we've still got our guesstimated route highlighted below...
